ADL Joins Local Jewish Agencies in Successfully Urging Oakland’s Museum of Children’s Art to Cancel Controversial Exhibit of Art by Gaza Children
Along with the East Bay Jewish Community Relations Council and the Jewish Federation of the East Bay, ADL persuaded Oakland’s Museum of Children’s Art (MOCHA) to reconsider an exhibit of war-themed art from Gazan children. The exhibit was sponsored by the Middle East Children’s Alliance which has a long history of strident anti-Israel activism. It contained numerous violent images depicting a politically biased view squarely and exclusively against Israel.

ADL Facilitates Jewish Community Security Briefing with East Bay Federation
ADL and the Jewish Federation of the East Bay convened a security briefing for East Bay Jewish institutions on September 9. Attended by Jewish institutional representatives and members of local law enforcement, the workshop focused on ensuring that all stakeholders in any institution or agency – from JCCs to synagogues to day schools – incorporate practical security protocols into the daily functioning of their facilities.

ADL Continues to Monitor and Advocate Against Palestinian Unilateralism at the UN – An Obstacle to Peace
The Palestinians are rejecting the hope of a negotiated peace with Israel, and have announced they will go to the U.N. in September to request some form of recognition as a unilaterally-declared independent state. Exactly what the Palestinians intend to do, and what process they will pursue at the U.N., remains unknown at this time. Regardless, this go-it-alone action will likely violate prior Israeli-Palestinian agreements, and is certain to leave the core issues of the conflict unresolved and festering.

ADL Meets with Greek Consul General
On September 15, a group of ADL lay leaders met with the Honorable Ioannis Andreades, Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in San Francisco. The visit had several key purposes: To urge Greece to vote against any Palestinian unilateral declaration of independence at the United Nations this month; to acknowledge and encourage the warm and growing bilateral relations between Greece and Israel; to thank Greece for preventing boats provocatively bound for Gaza in July from departing from its ports; and to express our concern over expressions of anti-Semitism in Greece, which largely take the form of occasional vandalisms to Jewish property as well as in certain public discourse.
